Ex MP's view on their Pay Hike Demand

Pritish Nandy, 22 August 2010, 10:01 AM IST

I was a MP not very long ago. I loved those six years. Everyone called me sir, not because of my age but because I was a MP. And even though I never travelled anywhere by train during those years, I revelled in the fact that I could have gone anywhere I liked, on any train, first class with a bogey reserved for my family. Whenever I flew, there were always people around to pick up my baggage, not because I was travelling business class but because I was a MP. And yes, whenever I wrote to any Government officer to help someone in need, it was done. No, not because I was a journalist but because I was a MP. [More]

If corporate hospitals complain they are not getting much from the scheme 'Aarogya Sri', Government helps them with " 'Bar'ogya Sri ". If the state is suffering from Swine Flu attack, our Chief Minister and his visionary Cabinet controls it with 'Wine Flow' by amending G.O.723 which allows to open more liquor shops in the state of Andhra Pradesh based on the population.

It is like number of Bar shops per certain number of people. Have we ever heard of Government increasing the Government hospitals based on the population? or Government doctors per number of people? or Government schools or Government colleges?

Answer is NO, NO and NO. But for liquor shops and the revenue on the liquor, this Government came out with the 'needs analysis' which helps them to allow more number of liquor shops. Shame on them. [More]

It’s high time, that government constitutes a regulating body to restrict this growing malady in the name of Media. The Press Council of India (PCI) has long back recommended for the formation of Media Council incorporating both Print & Electronic Media. Mr Ganendra Narayan Ray former judge of Supreme Court and Chairman of Press Council of India (PCI) in a recent Press meet at Kochi has reiterated the necessity for the formation of Media Council and the need of bringing the Electronic Media under the PCI. He strongly felt that atleast a peer group should be formed to regulate the mushrooming and ever growing electronic media. It would otherwise be against the spirit of Article 14 of the Constitution if the print media was treated in one way and electronic media in a different way. [More]
